Brandon Fellows January 6

Exasperated Judge Sentences Capitol Rioter to 3½ Years

Brandon Fellows Spars with Judge at Sentencing Hearing

Paragraph 1

Brandon Fellows, 29, of Schenectady, was sentenced to 3½ years in prison following an exasperated federal judge's decision. Fellows had been convicted in August of one felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding and four misdemeanor charges related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.

Paragraph 2

Fellows was initially arrested 10 days after the riot and initially faced misdemeanor charges. However, his charges were later upgraded to include a felony count of obstruction. During his sentencing hearing, Fellows reportedly sparred with the judge, claiming that the Trump-appointed judge was running a "kangaroo court."

Paragraph 3

The judge subsequently held Fellows in contempt and sentenced him to 3½ years in prison. The sentencing comes about six months after a federal jury in Washington, D.C., convicted Fellows of obstruction.
